Red Velvet Cake Recipe

My Nana made the best Red Velvet Cake ever!! Now I don’t have my Nana, but I do still have her recipe and wanted to share it with you all so you could enjoy it!! I’m planning on making it soon so I can have it for desert, I will just have to portion it out because I’m sure I don’t want to know how many calories are in it!!

Red Velvet Cake Etherl McCulley

1 1/2 c sugar

1/2 c shortening

2 eggs

2 tsp. cocoa (dissolved in 2 oz. red food coloring)

1 tsp. vinegar

1 tsp. baking soda

1 tsp. vanilla

2 1/4 c flour

1 cup butterlmilk

1 tsp. salt
Mix everything together and put into two round cake pans.  Bake at 350 degrees until done.

Frosting

Beat 1 c. sugar and 1 c butter (real butter is the best)

Cook 1 c buttermilk and 3 Tablespoons of Flour.  Let cool then add to sugar and butter.  Beat with mixer and then frost your cake! We always put a layer of frosting between the two layers of cake!! DELICIOUS!!!
